Boiler System Automation

Boiler System Automation

Boiler Systems Automation is developed to monitor and manage, from a single point, the operating data of the boiler room and the status of auxiliary equipment in single-boiler or multi-boiler applications. Pressure, temperature, level, alarm and equipment information are followed through the PLC and the operator panel (HMI); the operating sequences of auxiliary equipment such as pumps, fans and valves are managed. Operating data are recorded, historical values are displayed on trend screens, and remote access is provided from authorised devices. The scope of control is engineered according to the boiler type, the fuel type, the connected equipment and the plant operating scenario. Integration with SCADA and BMS systems is provided according to the needs of the plant.

Central Control and Equipment

The operating status of the boilers and auxiliary equipment is monitored centrally through the PLC-HMI. Pumps, deaerators, economizers, blowdown systems, fans and motorized valves are included in the control system according to the project scope. The burner interface is arranged according to the burner control system in use.

Monitoring, Alarms and Maintenance

The relevant process values and equipment status are displayed in real time on the operator panel. Active alarms, alarm history, equipment running hours and maintenance reminders make plant follow-up easier.

Multi-Boiler Management

In plants with more than one boiler, the commissioning sequence, the lead-standby arrangement and the load distribution are managed centrally. Operation of shared and standby equipment is coordinated.

Data Logging and Remote Access

Operating data are recorded, followed on trend screens and can be transferred to a USB memory stick. Authorised users can access the system remotely from a computer, tablet or smartphone. SCADA and BMS integration is provided according to the needs of the plant.

Can existing boilers and auxiliaries be brought into a new automation system?

That depends on a review of the equipment's control interfaces and electrical infrastructure. For systems that are suitable, the sensors, panels, cabling and software changes required are defined within the project.

How does the system behave if a sensor, pump or communication link fails?

The fault is shown on the operator panel and stored in the alarm history. The alarm screen gives information about the source of the fault and the points the operator should check. Depending on the type of fault, the equipment concerned can be stopped or a standby unit started if one exists. On critical alarms, operator confirmation is required before the system can start again.

How is burner safety coordinated with the operating control carried out through the PLC?

The burner's run permits, status and fault information are linked to the boiler automation. How operating control is divided from the protection functions of the boiler and burner is set according to the equipment used and the project's safety scenario.

How is it decided what users can do through remote access?

Authorised users can watch operating values, equipment status and alarms remotely. Access to commands and to parameter changes is limited by the user rights that have been defined and by the plant's operating needs.
